Intelligent Electronic Health record: Galeon, Focused On The Patient Journey

Galeon Intelligent Electronic Health Record (EHR) was implemented at a new hospital this September 2024. The William Morey Hospital Center in Chalon-sur-Saône is now equipped with its new patient management software. This deployment follows those carried out in June 2024 at the Toulon and Hyères Hospital Centers. What makes this software revolutionary and so different from others? Let’s see!

Galeon, the Intelligent Electronic Health Record Focused On The Patient Journey

This patient journey is often complex, particularly for healthcare professionals, due to the proliferation of sources containing patient data. This is largely driven by recent technological advancements such as telemedicine and various online apps and services. Today, it has become increasingly difficult to trace a patient’s medical history, making it challenging to ensure a flawless and comprehensive follow-up. The complexity is further heightened when a patient’s journey involves visits to multiple hospital units. Despite this, the patient journey generally remains structured around a few fundamental steps:

  1. Initial City Consultation: An initial appointment with a general practitioner or specialist, sometimes including additional examinations.
  2. Preadmission: The patient provides their medical history and current treatments through an administrative and/or medical process, either by phone or via a patient portal, as offered by Galeon.
  3. Admission: The patient is registered upon arrival at the hospital, followed by an initial health assessment conducted by the healthcare team.
  4. Care: Multiple consultations, medical examinations, and the planning of necessary treatments.
  5. Follow-up and Evaluation: Continuous monitoring of the patient’s health and the progression of their treatments over time.
  6. Discharge: Preparation of post-hospitalization instructions, medication prescriptions, and scheduling of follow-up appointments.
  7. Post-hospitalization Follow-up: Ongoing medical follow-up or additional services if required.

Unlike traditional EHR systems that focus on specific hospital specialties, Galeon is an Intelligent Patient Record: it centers on the patients and their entire journey. It is crucial that the patient’s records and information follow them seamlessly and securely from one unit to another. Galeon covers steps 2 through 7 of the patient journey through its various modules, accessible to the units, ensuring efficient and coordinated care.

An Intelligent And Innovative Electronic Health Record

Although the EHR software sector has lagged behind other industries where digital advancements have been much faster, innovation has not been neglected. At least not at Galeon, which continually innovates to bridge this gap. Beyond catching up, Galeon’s innovation focuses on user experience, data structuring, and security, utilizing new technologies like blockchain, among others. Traditionally, EHR updates are infrequent. Galeon, however, offers regular updates (almost monthly) to support and enhance the work of healthcare professionals.

This summer, for example, a rigorous check for physicochemical incompatibilities was added to prescriptions, making them more accurate. The key indicators gathered in Galeon (over 150 accessible through the Statistics Module) are invaluable for thesis research and for service managers who oversee various hospital departments. They also assist maternity services in improving care with specific indicators such as:

  • Breastfeeding,
  • Benefits of skin-to-skin contact,
  • The arterial pH of the newborn,
  • The impact of a mother’s BMI < 40 on her baby.

These data are therefore essential for advancing science and providing patients with personalized care.

A New Hospital Deployment For Galeon in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté

In September 2024, the Galeon team traveled to Saône-et-Loire Frenhc region to train and support the staff of the Mother-Child unit at the William Morey Hospital Center in Chalon-Sur-Saône as they adopted their new software. The deployment went smoothly, and the team will maintain close contact with the healthcare professionals to address any questions or needs that may arise post-deployment.
Stéphane Kirche, the hospital’s IT Director, expressed his satisfaction: Committed healthcare professionals, a perfectly executed and orchestrated deployment, attentive listening, and highly effective coordination! No surprises, no crashes! … Five days, top speed, and a roll-out I would describe as serene! This is finally a digital tool geared towards the future and truly serving the needs of healthcare providers.
With this new deployment, the community of hospitals using Galeon for patient management continues to grow, now encompassing 13 hospitals, including two university hospitals.

Galeon will be present at major healthcare events, including the upcoming Healthcare Week Luxembourg 2024.
